I’ve been visiting Joshua Tree National Park over the last couple of years and driving back along the Salton Sea to return to San Diego. I found a workshop that was actually based here and decided to visit and see some of the sites.
I had known about Salvation Mountain and Slab City for some time and had tried to visit several times only to be blocked by a train across the road and closing due to COVID. I finally made it on this visit. Bombay Beach is a old community as well as art installation on the Salton Sea.This area is along a fault line and is very active geothermal area. I found some mud pots here as well as passed several geothermal plants. The new activity in the area is mining of lithium for all those EV batteries.
