Fort Knox and the Patton Museum, Kentucky - March 10, 2009
My sister and her husband came to visit me in Kentucky, so we decided to check out some of the local sights. Fort Knox Army base and the gold depository are near Louisville. I saw Goldfinger as a kid, and the attack on the gold depository really left an impression. You can't get very close to it, but it sits right there in the open as you drive by. Fort Knox is also home to the General George Patton Museum of Leadership. The museum focuses on Patton's legacy and, above all, tanks — from World War I all the way to the modern M1 Abrams. One delightful surprise was finding the actual movie model of the gold depository from Goldfinger on display.
