Eastern Sierra, California - October 19, 2019
Columbus Day brought a welcome long weekend in October, so I decided it was finally time to explore the Eastern Sierra and catch the fall colors. I drove up to Lee Vining with plans to visit Mono Lake, Bodie State Park, and Yosemite. From there I worked my way down to Bishop, venturing into the high country for the fall foliage and a stop at the Laws Railroad Museum. Next up was Lone Pine, where I explored the Alabama Hills and Movie Road — the iconic filming location for countless Hollywood westerns. On the drive south I also pulled over for the Owens Valley Very Large Array and the ancient Bristlecone Pines. On the way home I wrapped things up with visits to Fossil Falls and the Trona Pinnacles.
