Miramar Air Show, San Diego, California - October 3, 2010
Miramar was once home to the Navy and the famous Top Gun school, and I attended the Navy airshow there several times over the years. While I was away from San Diego, the Navy relocated and the Marines took over the base — along with the airshow. Both versions featured static aircraft displays and the always-thrilling Blue Angels. The Navy shows included some great civilian acts: biplanes, the tiny BD-5 jet, and wing walking. The Marine version brought a whole new dimension with a demonstration battle sequence complete with helicopters, Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, Marines on the ground, and live explosions. This was my first time experiencing the Marine edition, and it did not disappoint!
