Alternate Photography workshops, Photographer's Eye Collective, Escondido, California - July 21, 2025
My year of living alternate — photography, that is! There are quite a few historic photographic processes that are still alive and well today. My wet plate work is one of them, and what you see here falls into that same category. These are alternative printing methods where the results vary based on the chemicals and papers used. Like wet plate, these processes involve coating your own paper and making a contact print from a large-format negative. I love the results, but living in drought-stricken San Diego, the amount of water required gives me pause. There are a few other processes I'd like to try just for the experience of doing it with my own images — though I'm not sure I'd ever adopt any of them as a full-time practice.
