La Brea Tar Pits and Cinerama Dome, Los Angeles, California - August 12, 2012
I'm not sure how I stumbled across it, but the Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles was hosting a very special event — screenings of This Is Cinerama and How the West Was Won using the original projection equipment. They even had an original Cinerama camera on display in the lobby. For those unfamiliar, Cinerama used three synchronized cameras and three projectors to create a breathtaking super-wide image that wrapped around the audience.
Since the show was in the evening, I headed up to LA early to make a day of it. I started with the La Brea Tar Pits and the on-site museum, then strolled over to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), which is located right in the same area. A great way to fill the afternoon before the main event!
