Chinatown has always been a place that fascinates me, so when I found a photo walking tour of the neighborhood I jumped at the chance. I had worked in the financial district and occasionally came up for lunch, but had never brought a camera or really explored the area. Shooting my usual subjects — monuments and buildings — came naturally enough, but switching into street photography mode was a real challenge. Getting in close with a shorter lens among the crowds took some adjustment. Ducking into the shops to shoot felt even more uncomfortable than shooting on the street — there's nowhere to hide when you're face to face with someone!
